Arthur is starting to catch on to the laser pointer. He seems to have figured out that it’s the source of that dastardly red dot that’s been tormenting him for the last several days. He’ll still chase the dot, but now when he starts to get fed up he’ll just stare at the pointer.
He also came up and nuzzled the pointer one time, so I guess he doesn’t hate it!

We got a laser pointer toy for Arthur. I’ve heard that they’re cruel because they just make the cat feel frustrated and become depressed (how did anyone determine this?) so we also got him a chirping mouse toy that we can toss out if we sense he’s losing hope.
It’s very entertaining.
The best game to play with the laser point is “Try to trick Arthur into attacking Cody” It’s only worked once so far, but. oh, it was glorious.
Target acquired. Launching cat missile.

Last Night’s Dream: Arthur and the sloth
We were staying in a vacation house in Australia* which turned out to be occupied by a three-toed sloth. At first we thought it was really cute. It liked to hang on the backs of doors like one of those shoe racks. Arthur**, however, did not like it one bit. He was totally freaked out by the sloth and would hiss at it and get all puffed up. This seemed cute at first, too, but then the sloth decided to fight back. It lashed out with one of those sharp claws and sliced Arthur’s tail off!
It was horrible! There was blood everywhere and Arthur wouldn’t let me near him to look at the wound. Before we could stop him, Arthur went after the sloth AGAIN and this time the sloth gave him a nasty gash on his side.
We decided we couldn’t stay at the house, so we traded vacation homes with the family staying next door, who turned out to be the Kardashions. They loved the sloth.
* There wasn’t anything Australian about the place… I just *knew* it was Australia.
** In real life we don’t usually take our cat on vacation.

Arthur escaped this afternoon and managed to find his way into the neighbor’s chicken coop. They had the coop door open and all the chickens were busy lounging up in the tree branches (their favorite past time) and I guess Arthur just wandered on in. And then, because he is apparently dumber than a chicken, he couldn’t find his way out.
It was very cute and sad. He kept putting his paws through the fence and trying to squeeze under it. Poor little jailed kitty! There wasn’t much I could do to help. I just waited for him to (finally!) rediscover the door he had come in through. He then came right up to the fence and let me lean over and grab him by his scruff. I guess he was ready to come home!

So, I just looked out our back window and discovered two… wolves in our yard?
Okay, so they were just wolf-looking dogs. One of them had a tag so I called the owner and she came and collected them.
While I waited for her to show up, I kept them in our mudroom. Cody was mildly interested in what all the hub-bub was about. Arthur didn’t like it one bit!

Arthur found a mouse.
When we got up this morning he was acting sort of weird. He was totally obsessed with this stack of CDs sitting next to the bookcase in the living rooms. Turns out it was because there was a mouse hiding behind the stack.
We caught the mouse in a tupperware and released it outside. He’s kinda cute, huh? I think so… but I’d still prefer he did not live in our house.
